vfx breakdown

behind the project

This independent historical film is currently in development, with our team brought in to create several key CGI and VFX shots, as well as compositing and cleanup for selected scenes.

The work featured on this page focuses on our full CGI sequences, created to immerse the audience in the atmosphere of ancient Carthage during the Roman Empire. The project required a detailed historical reconstruction of the city, combining historical research with 3D environment design and cinematic VFX.

We reconstructed the architecture and urban environment of Carthage based on available historical records and references, creating a detailed digital representation of the ancient city for use in the film. The scenes were assembled and rendered in Cinema 4D and Redshift, with additional simulations created in Blender and Houdini.

We also reconstructed a bust of Emperor Valerian using photogrammetry data captured from an original sculpture. The asset was further refined in ZBrush, with TrueDepth used in Blender to achieve a highly detailed digital reconstruction suitable for close-up shots.

The project combines historical reconstruction, 3D environment creation, CGI, VFX and photogrammetry to bring a historical setting back to life on screen. Our work demonstrates how detailed digital environments and character assets can be used for historical film VFX, cinematic CGI and period reconstruction.
