ATTIVIO /

vfx breakdown

behind the project

Attivio was a complex 3D animation and VFX production created in collaboration with production company Bolt Pro. Lynx and Bear was brought into the project at the early production planning stage, working closely with the director and producer to develop an animatic, plan the shoot and prepare the visual effects workflow.

The project required detailed pre-production and on-set planning to make the 3D CGI animation feel naturally integrated into the live-action footage. We handled on-set supervision and photogrammetry, while preparing the technical data needed to accurately recreate the shooting environment in 3D.

After the shoot, we built a detailed 3D matchmove based on the photogrammetry data and reconstructed the camera and environment for VFX production. The post-production included rotoscoping, keying, camera tracking, 3D animation, compositing and several custom simulations.

One of the main challenges was creating a believable interaction between the animated elements and the live-action environment. We animated a dinosaur hand, created simulations of letter-shaped balls and developed environmental reactions that responded to the 3D animation. Lens distortion grids provided by the matchmove studio and an on-set list with precise object-to-object distances helped us maintain accurate scale and perspective throughout the shots.

We also used AI to create an amoeba seen under a microscope and produced additional transitions and editorial effects in After Effects.

The 3D production was completed in Cinema 4D and Redshift, with textures created in Substance Painter. The entire project was delivered in one month, combining CGI, 3D animation, VFX, photogrammetry, matchmoving, simulations and compositing into a single production workflow.
